Keep it trimmed
Our golden rule - trim the wick. Don’t skip trimming one-quarter inch before you light the candle each time for clean, smoke-free burning.
Set the mood
Certain scents can help us to create distinct moods, so choose your scent carefully. We love refreshing, invigorating scents in the morning. In the evening, opt for more soothing scents like lavender or camomile to help you relax. If you’re in need of some creative inspo, try a warm or spicey scent like jasmine or juniper.
Burn the wax to the edge
The first time you light your candle, make sure to melt the whole top of the candle before extinguishing it to prevent ‘tunnelling’ (this is where a canyon forms in the centre). When the pool of wax extends to the outside rim, your candle will ‘remember’ to burn out to the rim next time. Smart, right?
Choose a candle with natural ingredients
Natural candles contain less toxic ingredients, so by choosing them you’re less likely to expose yourself to nasty chemicals. Natural essential oils not only have beautiful scents, but inhaling the aromas can boast psychological benefits too.
Don’t blow it out (use a snuffer)
The best way to extinguish the flame of a candle is by using a candle snuffer. This stops the wax from spraying and keeps the wick centered. Who doesn’t love a candle accessory…
Keep out of the breeze
To avoid uneven burning and smoking, keep your candles out of any breeze and try to find a draft-free area of the house. If a draft can’t be avoided, then try turning the candle 180 degrees every hour.
Nudge wick back in place after each use
Before the wax goes totally solid again, gently reposition the wick vertically to its original position.
Burn the candle safely
You may think this goes without saying, but we like to be safe. Avoid burning your candle near curtains and keep them out of the reach of children and pets. Don’t burn the last centimetre of wax, it’s time to say goodbye to your candle when it burns this low.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Don’t let your used up candle pots go to waste. Pop your candle pot in hot water (not boiling) wait a few minutes before popping out the leftover wax. Wash with hot soapy water and you’re good to go!
